There was a distinct Autumnal feel to this Friday's dig. Overcast, some light rain and windy, but it really was a pleasant time with eleven of us making good headway. We're coming to a close regarding digging the mound, and as a finale Mary K. found the largest piece of 'Samian Ware' from our site to date in the southern end of the mound. As you probably know this Romano British artefact has to be over seventeen hundred years old , quite remarkable. A little further north Julie, Liza and Catherine have now dug down to the the natural bedrock. This has clearly been modified before the wall structure was built, we are still unclear what this is all about, but channels? have been created in the bedrock highlighted by the backfill, which contains animal bone and charcoal.

Our largest piece of Romano British 'Samian Ware' to date, found resting on the natural bedrock. An unusual find for the Glebe Field excavations.
Further north on the mound, trench TR47 Context 09 exposes natural bedrock either side of a manmade channel.
