This Friday 4th September was a good dig day in the Glebe Field. The rain died out by 8.30am and apart from being blustery was a nice day. Firstly, Mary found two flints close together in Trench TR50, they are of similar colour and texture, the larger, according to Chris Butler's 'Prehistoric Flintwork' is possibly a Mesolithic flint core , the smaller may be a retouched microlith, the core is quite heavily abraded. These are great finds and adds to our increasing flint collection ,now about forty.

Secondly. David E. continued in TR48 digging down on the return found last week, which runs roughly south west forming an angle of 100 degrees. As David progressed downwards it became clear this was a stepped foundation, designed to spread the load of the wall. This is a first for the Glebe Field and could have been built this way for several reasons, for example, lack of confidence in the sub foundation layers. Further work here will probably answer such questions, carry on digging!!
