19th June 2026 Dig Day

We had a nice weather day last Friday 19th June. The two main areas of interest, trenches TR 50 and combined trenches TR47 to 49 seem to carry on where they left off last week. Lots of finds from TR50 and very few from the TR 47 to 49.  TR47 is full of demolition rubble and worth noting very few finds, this makes sense so long as the wall was pushed over, as it appears, and never touched again. Under this demolition layer we continue to uncover what appears to be a rough cobbled surface, the metal detector is finding lots of responses so could be an occupation surface, fingers crossed. Unfortunately the wall structure does not appear to be intact to the north or south.

TR47-49

TR50 continues to produce many and varied artefact but all as we have recovered from the Glebe Fields other trenches, including Saxo Norman and later green glaze potsherds.

Special thanks as always to Alex for the excellent drone images
