Friday 1st May 2026 Dig Day

Artefacts were thin on the ground for todays dig. But I see the  day's work as a big success as we expose the outer layers of the north to south mound we jokingly call the 'boat burial'. From previous evaluation trenches here we have found numerous artefacts and in TR46 west of TR47 the remains of a foundation wall. Once the remaining soil is removed and we have recorded the rubble and stone mound ,we'll work our way down through. We have already posted 3D models on this website if you like to follow the progress. More 3D models next week.

TR47 with wall remains just visible on the righthand side .

Trench TR50 south of TR47 with most of the rubble and stone element of the mound now visible.

Spot the north arrow. Ha!  It's was the largest I had to hand.
