Rockfield Studios an Archaeology of Rock Music
Weather really has put an end to digging on site, so some SAG members came along with Zillah and I to Rockfield Studios near Monmouth.
Very briefly Rockfield is a recording studio set up by brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward in the 1960s and has been hugely successful but in their own unique way. The Studios are analogue and the machinery is mostly from the 1970s and 80s. I keep an open mind and see many opportunities for historic and archaeological studies in all artefacts below and above the ground , Rockfield is one such place, that may not immediately be of interest to archaeologists, but it is full of cultural cues giving direction to our recent past - it is living history in a working farm setting. I suggest Googling 'Rockfield Studios' for a list of rock artists who've recorded there and if the opportunity arises to visit the site, go you will not regret it.
