Dig Day 19th September 2021
Another productive day in the Glebe Field. Ten of us on site and the interest it creates was ably demonstrated by Mo and Aaron both digging in TR46.
Mo and Aaron in TR46
TR 46 is our newest trench and is over the northern end of the mound. Finds, by the standards of the Glebe Field, are a bit thin now but that may well change next week as we get further into the Medieval layers. We continue to look for any signs of a wall structure, which may have formed an inner enclosure. Liza worked hard in TR45 taking out the bottom levels of the ditch, the material we will keep for future analysis.
TR46,a feature starting to appear
Mary L. was back in Maryland, otherwise known as TR28, to tidy up its north section. A lot of material has fallen to the base of the trench, so Mary carefully removed it sifting out the artefacts. Artefacts are always exciting to find and luckily most of this tray are ,for instance, pottery types we know, but we have to bear in mind these are out of context and are of less analytical value in isolation.

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work .
